This course will introduce the basic devices at work in physical comedy by exploring some of the classic gags and routines through a variety of fun exercises and scratch performances.
The course is designed for people with little or no experience of performing physical comedy.
Open to anyone 16 and above, it will be an ideal opportunity for any actors, performers and comics looking to enhance their funny bones.
The day will consist of:
What is Physical Comedy: introducing some of the great gags and routines and analyzing why and how they work through a physical exploration of basic techniques.
Exploring comic techniques through games and exercises such as double-takes, clocks, drops, comic stops, slights, escalations and reversals.
Working on solo, pair and trio routines, to develop gags and comic scenes using a variety of props to stimulate reactions.
Considering structure - the beginning middle and end of scenes, the rule of three, subverting expectations and problem finding and problem solving.
Throughout the day participants will have the opportunity to present both rehearsed and improvised work to the rest of the group.

Tim trained originally in Theatre at the prestigious Bretton Hall School of Drama before going on to specialize in Street theatre, Mime and Clown, training with Philippe Gaulier in 1994 and many other leading practioners from the world of physical theatre.
A practicing performance artist Tim has been constantly in demand as an entertainer for nearly 25 years, having worked for most of the major family entertainment attractions in the UK and for many international clients, including The London Eye, The Singapore Festival of Arts and The Dubai Shopping Festival.
Using his highly developed skills in Mime, Clown, Prop Comedy and improvisation Tim performs shows, walkabout and meet and greet entertainment in a variety of finely detailed guises tailored to your events needs.
Alongside this Tim has also enjoyed many opportunities to pass on his skills and knowledge. Including running clown workshops at leading drama schools, The Drama Centre and East 15, helping establishing a resident street theatre company for Portsmouth Quays Shopping Centre and teaching clown & circus skills at hundreds of schools all over the south east.
